PMI Worldwide Sets Ambitious Long-Term Environmental Goals

PMI Worldwide Sets Ambitious Long-Term Environmental Goals

PMI Worldwide recognizes the magnitude and importance of the challenges facing our planet today. Our mission to revolutionize the way people enjoy food and beverage everywhere is brought to life through durable food and beverage containers which eliminate the need for single-use disposables. This is important for the planet, but we know there is more we must do.

We have established an ambitious set of long-term environmental goals focused on the most impactful part of our business and aligned with science. These include an emphasis on reusability, sourcing sustainable materials, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our supply chain.

Champion Reusability Solutions for All: We intend to be champions for reusability solutions by building innovative products and collaborating with customers and industry to address behavioral and infrastructure challenges to the widespread adoption of reusable containers.

Source Sustainable Materials for Products and Packaging: PMI is committed to increasing the use of recycled materials in our products and optimizing the sustainability of materials used in our packaging. We intend to be part of the solution to driving a marketplace for recycled and sustainable materials and encouraging the expansion of recycling infrastructure to meet industry needs.

Targets: All material procured for use in PMI-developed products will include at least 25% recycled content by 2025. All paper fiber procured for use in primary and secondary packaging will include at least 50% recycled content and/or achieve sustainability certification by 2025.

Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Our Supply Chain: We believe that business plays an essential role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions that are driving global climate change. Most of PMI’s environmental footprint is emissions associated with the manufacture and transport of our products. We have set an ambitious, science-based target for emissions reductions in these categories and expect our suppliers and factories to play a vital role in meeting these goals

Targets: PMI aims to reduce absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% by 2030 from a 2018 base year. Factories cumulatively representing at least 85% of annual spend will have environmental improvement plans in place by 2022.
